I have been gradually changing out the printers in our house over the past few years. I have been trying to get everything to be laser printers. I have 2 currently, and I don’t think I am going to go any further at this point. Laser printers cost some serious money, and the toners, and other consumables don’t make it any easier. We have a cheap inkjet printer in our daughters room so that when she wants to print out standard stuff she doesn’t use up all of my things.
One of them is a Minolta Magicolor. This printer has very good toner habits, as I haven’t changed them at all this year. This printer has been great for duplex printing, and printing high resolution photos.
The other is a Brother MFC. This printer has been great for printing standard stuff. Being it has a network scanner, and a fax machine this one gets used more than the other. Being able to load the scanner up, and tell it to send it to any of the computers that are configured is great.
I think the best thing that I did was setup a server in our house for documents, photos, and such. When we go away I am able to send things to either of the printers because I have it setup to be able to print from the internet. This is nice when I have to send something back to my office when I am away. The only thing that I haven’t been able to do to date is poster printing. There have been many times that either my daughter, or I could have used a printer that had poster capability. For now we don’t worry about this much, as it is a very rare thing that we need posters.
