Connect your PS3 to home theatre

Correctly configuring your PS3 to your Surround stereo is very important.

This walkthrough will actually work with any gaming system.

I have found sites showing that you can use this setup for DTS, while others say NO.

Here is a very short instructional.

First connect the PS3 to your tv by either HDMI, or Component cable.  You do not need audio cables if you are using the Component cables.

Second connect the PS3 to your stereo via an Optical cable if your stereo has the capability.  If not connect the Red audio, and White audio cable to the stereo.

Third go into the PS3 settings, and configure the PS3 based on which connection you used.

Things to make sure you do in the end…

Turn the tv volume all the way down.

If you are on Optical, then the stereo should automatically decide which sound mode to use.  If you must choose, then make sure you have at least used Dolby Pro Logic 1, or 2.

The reason you do not need audio at the tv when you have a stereo is that you will receive a echo due to the audio going to 2 different fields, and the stereo fields are going to decode in a different manner.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me, and I will be glad to help you out.

As a 15 year installation tech contracted by many of the big stores I have experience with audio, and video.  Most people think they know what they are talking about… Most don’t.

DTS isn’t used in many applications yet, due to the cost of the equipment most people will not upgrade just for that one sound set.

Correct placement of speakers is key…

This section is pertaining to wall mounted tv’s, and some stand type tv’s.

Front Left, and Front Right should be on the appropriate side towards the middle of the tv.  Wall mounted speakers should not be at the ceiling.  The center channel needs to be under the tv.  The Surround speakers should not be at the ceiling either.  They should be at approximatelly ear level when sitting down.  The subwoofer actually performs well in the front of the room, but for rooms with the seating in the back of the room, the subwoofer should be placed at the back of the room.

Here are a few pictures to show you how we install to correct sound specifications…

I will make a detailed posting on what not to do when installing, or having your lcd / plasma installed on your wall.

Christmas 2008…

Well, we were woken up at @5:45am by our daughter.  Wife, and I proceeded to roll over, and tell Leeann to go back to bed, and it was a dream.  At @7:30am she returned stating that Santa was there, and she wanted to get to the gifts.

Kids these days…!

She got everything she asked Santa for.  After she got everything she was asked if she was happy with everything.  She dropped the bomb on mom, and made mom go balistic.  She said that she didn’t want a few of the items.

Now I believe I am onto a solution… Have Santa leave the child $100, or so, and let her get exactly what she wants.  This is the 2nd year that Santa didn’t get everything right.  I don’t understand.  Kids these days are so impossible.  My daughter is not greedy in any shape, or form.  After Christmas at my mothers house she had to have a little sit down about something she said.  Granted I fully understand the reasoning behind her comment to my younger brother.

She was asked if she got everything she wanted.  She said yes, but she could have gotten more.  I really won’t get into the hows, and the whys, but I do actually fully understand her comment.  All I want to say is that when you do something… Do it equally.  Does anyone else have family members that kinda make you feel a little awkward during the holidays?

I have no complaints this year.  My parents don’t have to get me anything.  Honestly… as long as they are alive, and well I will be happy.  I just ask that they take care of my daughter.  This year she got me a Mickey Star Wars wristwatch.  I am a Star Wars person, and I am also a Disney person.

ABC’s series LOST

Has anyone seen the LOST trailer for the new season? Looks interesting. What got you started with LOST? Here is what got me hooked.

3 Seasons ago I happened to be watching the season attractions trailer that they broadcast on DirecTV.  I saw a recap on LOST, and thought that it looked like it was an interesting show.  My wife, and I then decided that we would set our DVR to record the first episode for Season 2, and we would decide after viewing it.  After viewing it we agreed that LOST definitelly had possibilities.  We watch each season like clockwork.

Do you have theories about what is going on?  I have followed the show closely, but I am still a little hazed about some of it.  At the end of the last season they were showing the Oceanic 7 back in the US.  They led me to believe through a few subtle hints that they were going to have the survivors go back to the island.  ABC is now showing the trailer, and basically confirming this.

Seems Locke is dead in the trailer…  Anyone else notice this?  I don’t actually remember Locke getting off the island.  The Oceanic 7 were: Jack, Kate, Hugo, Sayid, Jin, Sun, Baby… Am I right on this?

Where did Ben come from, as he was last shown in the Orchid… “Moving the island.”
